About John Cuevas

My painting stems from an inner need: to give form to what would otherwise be lost.
My paintings reveal fragments of memory, suspended presences, spaces that do not belong to a specific place but to the realm of the imagination. I don’t paint to describe—I paint to evoke, to open a passage for the viewer to move through with their own sensitivity.
Painting, for me, is resisting oblivion. It’s transforming absence into presence, distance into color, fragility into a sign.
Like a wine that carries within its body the climate, soil, and seasons of its creator, each work preserves a lived moment in time—and offers it to those who know how to pause and listen.
